1st Metric Century on our ElliptiGOs….

Well we did it…. on Saturday we completed the Party Pardee Metric Century on our ElliptiGO 8Cs – making this our first official ride event on our SUBs! Woohoo!

From our past lives where we regularly participated in ride events such as these – somehow, we’d missed this one.  So didn’t know quite what to expect in the 65 miles and nearly 4,000 feet of climbing that our day would include.

We had a fantastic day! Ideal weather. Nice scenery. Low traffic and roads that were relatively smooth.  And the course provided plenty of challenge for both of us (our training has been a little less than stellar, ahem). There were lots of hills, both rolling as well as the steep variety. Before the ride, we worried a bit that we might miss (er, end up pushing our GOs up some hills) not having one lower gear (as comes with the ElliptiGO 11R) to get ourselves up and over the steepest hills.  But as it turned out, the 8C/8 gears were quite enough. Yeah!

We weren’t sure if we’d be riding alone for most the day, given our slower, average speeds.  We started a bit early, abbreviated our breaks a bit, and finished a bit later than most – but always had a variety of ride company throughout the day.  There was plenty of curious questions from fellow riders – and a lot of positive encouragement.  Nice! The day, and the miles flew by – and before we knew it, we had completed the ride – in just under 6 hours.   Best thing? No stiff backs or sore bums – our biggest attraction to the SUB!
